Surat: Ravi Raj Desai won the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) vice-president election for 2026–27 by securing 1,887 votes, defeating his rival Nitin Bharucha, who polled 599 votes and lost his deposit. The polling was held at Platinum Hall in Sarsana from 9am to 5pm. However, voter participation remained low, with only around 18% turnout recorded from nearly 14,000 eligible voters, reportedly due to the summer heat and vacation period.A total of 2,505 votes were cast in the election, of which 18 were declared invalid and one ballot was reported missing, leaving 2,486 valid votes. Desai registered a decisive victory with a margin of 1,288 votes.Since Bharucha failed to secure the required 30% of votes to retain his deposit, his security amount was forfeited.
