Chandigarh: Senior Congress leader and Gurdaspur MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa on Monday criticised the central govt and Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the prevailing economic situation.Citing PM Modi’s appeal for self-restraint amid the global crisis, the former deputy CM of Punjab said the warnings issued earlier by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi regarding the impending economic crisis, rising unemployment and inflation had now proven accurate.Randhawa said over the last 12 years, PM Modi has brought the country to a stage where people were being told what to buy and what not to buy, where to go and where not to go.He added that the PM should first apply these measures to himself. Randhawa suggested reducing the number of vehicles in political convoys and cutting down or stopping foreign tours. He demanded that the PM immediately convene a special session of Parliament to discuss the issue and take the nation into confidence by informing citizens about the actual situation. The Congress leader further said the country needed accountability, honest economic planning and a foreign policy based on national interests rather than grand events and showmanship. He emphasised that strengthening the economy required job creation, investment and support for industry and agriculture. However, due to the current policies, economic inequality continues to increase, said the parliamentarian.Randhawa said the Congress party would continue to raise public issues and hold the central govt accountable to secure the country’s economic future.MSID:: 131016870 413 |
