Ram temple Trust meeting may fall short of quorum

Ayodhya: The proposed meeting of the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust on July 6 may run into quorum issue, with only six of its 10 permanent members likely to be available to attend.At least seven permanent members must be present to meet the quorum. The 15-member Trust comprises 10 permanent and five ex officio members.The meeting has been advanced from July 11 to July 6 where the fate of Trust’s general secretary Champat Rai and member Anil Mishra is likely to be decided.Sources in the Trust said only permanent members have the voting rights. With the posts of Champat Rai, Anil Mishra and Bimlendra Mohan Pratap Mishra vacant, and Mahant Nritya Gopal Das unlikely to attend owing to his health, only six permanent members are expected to be present. This would fall short of the two-thirds quorum required for the meeting to transact business.The permanent members of the Trust were Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, Vasudevanand Saraswati, Vishaprasannateerth, Parmanand Giri, treasurer Govind Dev Giri, Krishna Mohan, Dinendra Das, Champat Rai, Anil Mishra and Bimlendra Mohan Pratap Mishra.Of the permanent members, three posts are vacant following the resignations of general secretary Champat Rai and member Anil Mishra, while the seat of Bimlendra Mohan Pratap Mishra fell vacant after his death.Trust president Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, 89, is hospitalised, while senior member K Parasaran, 95, has been unwell for some time. The Trust does not have a vice-president who can preside over the meeting in the president’s absence.The five ex officio members are secretary in Union govt Prashant Lekhande; additional secretary home, UP, Sanjay Prasad; Ayodhya DM Shashank Tripathi; Ram temple construction committee chairman Nripendra Misra; and nominated member K Parasaran, senior advocate who represented the Ram temple case in the Supreme Court.
