Rajkot boy sole Gujarat candidate in JEE Main elite club

Ahmedabad: From more than 1.5 million candidates nationwide, Nimay Purohit of Rajkot has emerged as Gujarat’s sole candidate student to secure a perfect 100 percentile in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE)-Main. Results of the two-session examination were announced by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on Monday, with the total number of candidates rising to 15.38 lakh across both phases.Purohit is among just 26 students across the country to have achieved the 100 percentile score, placing Gujarat on the national merit map this year. While Chandigarh’s Aarush Singhal clinched the top rank nationally, the distribution of perfect scores underscores a shifting academic geography — Andhra Pradesh led with five top-scorers, followed by four each from Rajasthan and Telangana. The results signal an increasingly competitive environment for engineering students in cities such as Ahmedabad and Rajkot. NTA data indicates that the qualifying threshold for the next stage has tightened, with the general category cut-off rising to 93.41 percentile. Experts expect overall admission cut-offs to jump by approximately 2% due to the high volume of candidates.Of the students who sat for the April session — offered in 13 languages including Gujarati — the NTA has cleared 2.5 lakh candidates to appear for the JEE Advanced. This final exam, scheduled for May, serves as the gatekeeper for the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).While national counselling begins in June, Gujarat’s technical colleges will continue to use the Admission Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC) for state-specific placements. Registration for JEE Advanced opens on April 23.
