Jaipur: Rajasthan Police Monday issued an advisory warning voters, election candidates, political workers and personnel deployed on election duty against cyber fraud and misinformation during the upcoming municipal and Panchayati Raj elections. The advisory, issued on the directions of Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar Sharma, cautions people against fake voter links, OTP requests, QR codes, phishing emails and deepfake content that could be used by cybercriminals for financial fraud.Additional Director General of Police, Cyber Crime and Technical Services, VK Singh said that fraudsters could send messages on WhatsApp or SMS asking people to “check their name in the voter list” or informing them that their polling booth had been changed. “Voters have been advised not to click on such links and to rely only on official election websites for information. Also, people should be aware of callers posing as election officials and seeking OTPs, bank details or UPI PINs in the name of voter verification or updating voter cards,” Singh said.People have been advised to verify UPI links and QR codes before making election-related donations, as a UPI PIN is never required to receive money.Candidates and political workers have been advised to enable two-factor authentication on social media accounts and use strong passwords. The public has been urged not to believe or forward unverified videos, audio clips or deepfakes.
