Jaipur: Nearly a month after announcing a Rs 12,500-crore plan to overhaul infrastructure in govt schools, Rajasthan govt Monday released the detailed breakdown of the proposed works.Under the three-year roadmap, the state will construct 3,587 new school buildings, add 83,783 classrooms, undertake major repairs across 22,589 schools and set up 13,616 toilet complexes.The scheme, originally announced on Aug 23, covers state-run schools across all 41 districts. According to the details released Sunday, Rs 2,487 crore has been earmarked for new school buildings, Rs 8,378 crore for additional classrooms, Rs 1,129 crore for major repairs and Rs 340 crore for toilet complexes.Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma directed officials to formulate and execute the blueprint based on technical surveys of school infrastructure, govt said in an official statement.The statement mentioned that over Rs 2,723 crore has already been spent during its two-and-a-half-year tenure on school buildings and additional classrooms. This includes Rs 182 crore spent on constructing 179 school buildings and Rs 757 crore for 7,945 additional classrooms.The initiative also incorporates a major digital learning component, allocating Rs 107 crore for 9,000 smart classes and Rs 880 crore for 7,000 ICT labs. Around Rs 100 crore will be spent on distributing 80,000 tablets. Govt had previously stated that approximately Rs 1,087 crore would be spent on technology upgrades by Dec 2026.“The roadmap for strengthening school infrastructure has been prepared based on technical surveys, and the works will be implemented in a planned manner,” the statement read.The administration added that 88,724 meritorious students have received free tablets along with internet connections during its current tenure, claiming that no tablets or laptops were distributed during the previous govt’s five-year term.Enrolment in govt schools has crossed 73 lakh, reaching 73.13 lakh. Officials attributed this growth to key interventions, including advancing the academic session’s start to April 1 and ensuring the timely distribution of textbooks, with 4.42 crore textbooks distributed for the current session.“The increase in enrolment reflects the efforts being made to strengthen govt schools and ensure timely availability of academic resources,” the statement added.Highlighting its spending under Right to Education (RTE) Act, govt stated that over Rs 2,146 crore has been reimbursed to private schools during its tenure. It added that 2.37 lakh new students secured free admissions under RTE in 2025–26, followed by 4.39 lakh new admissions in 2026–27.
