Ludhiana: Road construction work carried out during rainfall in G-Block of Shaheed Bhagat Singh (SBS) Nagar on Pakhowal Road has sparked sharp concerns among local residents regarding the quality and durability of the new stretch.Paving and leveling operations continued on Sunday despite wet weather and rain forecasts, with residents pointing out that no officials from the Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) were present on-site to supervise the work. Expressing frustration, residents questioned why authorities pushed forward with road laying during the rainy season when weather predictions clearly indicated showers.Locals expressed fear that laying asphalt on wet surfaces without adhering to engineering precautions would allow water to seep into sub-layers, causing early deterioration and potholes.

They noted that a similar incident occurred in an adjacent locality last week, where construction proceeded during rain despite public complaints.Resident Arvind Sharma emphasised the technical risks involved, stating: “Roads should ideally be laid under suitable weather conditions. If rainwater seeps into the layers during construction, it could affect the quality and lead to premature deterioration.”Appealing to civic authorities, residents demanded immediate monitoring of ongoing projects, temporary suspension of paving during heavy downpours, and strict adherence to quality norms before work completion. Officials have not yet commented on the matter.
