Rain warnings return to Maharashtra: Pune city to see light showers, ghats under orange alert this week
Pune city is likely to see very light to light rain in the next few days

Pune: Rain warnings have returned across parts of Maharashtra, with India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting a spell of enhanced rainfall activity over the state from Wednesday onwards.However, the wet phase is expected to be brief, with showers likely to ease over most areas after Aug 15.For Pune city, the forecast remains relatively subdued, with very light to light rain likely through coming days. Pune district’s ghats, however, have been placed under orange alert for Wednesday, with heavy to very heavy rainfall likely at isolated places.IMD has forecast fairly widespread to widespread rainfall over Konkan and Goa from Aug 12-17, while Madhya Maharashtra is likely to receive the same category of rain on Aug 12, followed by isolated to scattered rainfall during Aug 13-17. Marathwada is also expected to see isolated to scattered rainfall from Aug 12-17.However, isolated heavy rainfall is also likely over Konkan and Goa from Aug 12-15 and over Madhya Maharashtra from Aug 13-15. IMD has also forecast isolated very heavy rainfall over Madhya Maharashtra on Aug 12.For Pune city, IMD’s local forecast indicates partly cloudy skies becoming generally cloudy towards afternoon or evening, with very light to light rain likely. Maximum temperatures are expected to remain around 28-29°C over the next few days.Ghats around Pune have already seen moderate to heavy showers. Rainfall recorded till 8.30am on Tuesday included 70mm at Tamhini, 63mm at Dawdi, 55mm each at Shirgaon and Ambone, 50mm at Lonavala (off), 44mm at Koyna Pophali and 43mm at Bhira. Lonavala (Tata) recorded 40mm, while Dungerwadi received 35mm rainfall.The latest district forecast indicated heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places on Aug 12 and heavy rainfall at isolated places on Aug 13, before the intensity reduces to moderate rain on Aug 14-15.
