Chandigarh: The city is likely to witness a spell of light rain and thunderstorms over the next five days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday.The city recorded 10.2mm rainfall between 8.30am on Monday and 5.30pm on Tuesday. Despite the rain, maximum temperature on Tuesday settled at 36.6 degrees Celsius, two degrees above normal, while minimum temperature was recorded at 25.6 degrees Celsius, 1 degree below normal.According to the IMD forecast, maximum temperature is expected to gradually decline from around 36 degrees Celsius on July 8 and 9 to nearly 33 degrees Celsius by July 12. Minimum temperature is likely to remain between 26 degrees Celsius and 27 degrees Celsius during the period.The weather department has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by light rain from July 8 to July 12, with partly cloudy skies prevailing throughout the week. The rainfall is likely to moderate daytime temperatures and offer occasional relief from humid conditions.Residents have been advised to exercise caution during thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon and evening, when gusty winds and brief spells of rain could disrupt outdoor activities.The latest forecast marks a departure from the IMD’s previous outlook issued on Monday, which indicated the possibility of heavy rainfall over the region for around three days. The revised forecast now points to light rain and thunderstorm activity instead.
