Surat: Railway police here on Friday destroyed liquor worth Rs 23.60 lakh that had been seized in 858 prohibition cases, disposing of more than 20,000 bottles confiscated over the past nine months.According to police, 20,166 bottles of liquor seized between Nov 1, 2025, and July 31, 2026, were destroyed in accordance with prescribed govt procedures.The destruction was carried out at an open plot near the CETP plant on the Althan road within Dundi village limits. The exercise was conducted in the presence of sub-divisional magistrate Nirav Brahmbhatt, deputy superintendent of police D H Gor and inspector J B Mithapara.Police said railway stations and surrounding areas remain under constant surveillance as smugglers frequently use railway routes to transport liquor to Surat and nearby areas.Railway police in Surat registered an average of 95 prohibition cases a month over the past nine months, with average monthly seizures of about 2,240 liquor bottles.
