Kolkata: The tunnel boring machine (TBM), Divya, digging the underground section of the Purple Line metro will complete its journey from Kidderpore to Victoria Memorial on Tuesday, a month after sibling TBM Durga reached the destination.TBM Divya is scheduled to break through the wall of the upcoming Victoria Metro station, around 12 noon on Tuesday. Sibling TBM, Durga, who began digging from below Kidderpore’s St Thomas’ school on July 10, 2025, broke through exactly a year later, on July 10, 2026.Likewise, TBM Divya began boring the 1.75km Kidderpore-Victoria tunnel on Oct 10, 2025, around three months after the first TBM.On Tuesday, one of the last stretches of the metro tunneling in Kolkata, will be completed. The 14km Purple Line or the Joka-Esplanade corridor now runs an elevated 8km from Joka to Majerhat. Work is on to build the 5km underground section from Kidderpore to Esplanade. Tunneling with the help of giant machines will be done till Park Street where the Purple Line will inface with the Blue or North-South Line’s Park Street station. Beyond Park Street, cut-and-cover method will be used.In the first phase, the TBMs are building twin tunnels between Kidderpore and Victoria. In the next phase, they will create the 900m link between Victoria and Park Street.
