Punjab records 4 new crop residue burning cases, MP worse affected

Bathinda: Punjab on Sunday recorded four new crop residue burning cases, taking the total count so far this season to 14. Madhya Pradesh continued to lead the chart with 18,376 incidents.Madhya Pradesh reported 1,058 out of 1,815 crop residue burning cases reported on Sunday across the states, taking the cumulative count to 25,976.As per the Consortium for Research on Agroecosystem Monitoring and Modeling From Space (CREAMS), which records the stubble burning cases across the country twice a year after paddy and wheat harvesting, Madhya Pradesh has reported over 50% of the crop residue burning cases registered in the last five years.Of the total 2,24,515 cases reported since 2022, 1,13,062 were reported from MP. Uttar Pradesh followed in second place with 53,538 incidents. Punjab recorded 47,991 cases, Haryana 9,805 and Delhi 119 incidents.The maximum 2,843 burning cases this season have been reported from Siddharthnagar district of Uttar Pradesh. Thirty-eight districts in MP and UP have reported over 100 stubble-burning cases each till April 19.Earlier, during paddy harvesting in the 2025 kharif season, Madhya Pradesh topped the stubble burning list with 17,067 cases, followed by Uttar Pradesh (7,290) and Punjab (5,114).Crop residue burning cases till April 19 (BOX)MP: 18,376UP: 7,547Haryana: 36Punjab: 14Delhi: 3Total: 25,976MSID:: 130371281 413 |
