Puja committee writes to LG for permission to play loudspeakers till midnight

New Delhi: Dakshin Palli Durga Puja Samiti in CR Park has written to LG Taranjit Singh Sandhu, requesting his permission for the use of sound systems till midnight during Durga Puja. Unlike last year, no order regarding an extension of timings beyond 11 pm for the use of loudspeakers for the festival was passed by LG’s office this year, the samiti stated.“For many years, LG’s office has been allowing us to use sound systems till midnight during Durga Puja. This year, as no such order has been issued, the concerned authorities are forcing us to end our cultural functions at 11 pm. This is creating a lot of confusion, resentment and anger among organisers and devotees,” according to an appeal issued by the samiti. It requested an extension of timings, reasoning that all puja samitis have already booked renowned artistes from Kolkata and Mumbai for cultural programmes. In a post on X, DCP south Delhi refuted the claims. “Police intervention is only to ensure court rules on noise pollution. The organisers kept playing loud music past the permitted time, despite agreeing to the rules in earlier meetings. Delhi Police is committed to safe festivities for all. We urge everyone to cooperate…”
