NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will hold a mass protest in Delhi on October 15 against alleged “vote theft” and demand the resignation of chief election commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, Delhi unit chief Saurabh Bharadwaj said on Tuesday.Bharadwaj said AAP MLAs, councillors and office-bearers from the state, district, assembly and ward levels would participate in the protest. The announcement came after a meeting of party leaders to discuss the future course of the movement, news agency PTI reported.“Our primary demand is Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation. Our protest will continue until he resigns,” Bharadwaj said, adding that the party would continue its agitation through peaceful means despite police action. He also criticised the government’s decision to de-notify Jantar Mantar as a designated protest site, saying AAP was ready to hold a peaceful demonstration at Ramlila Maidan if permission was not granted at Jantar Mantar.Senior AAP leader Gopal Rai alleged that the government was using police force and restrictions on public transport and internet services to suppress the movement, PTI reported.Rai said the party had convened a meeting of MLAs, councillors and office-bearers to plan the next course of the agitation. He said the party was demanding Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation, cancellation of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process and steps to ensure free and fair elections.Describing the agitation as a movement to save the country, Rai said it would continue until the party’s demands were met.He also warned that the movement, currently centred in Delhi, could spread across the country if the government continued the alleged repression.(With agency inputs)
