‘Probe at Initial Stage’: Cheema refutes claims of DGP linking blasts to ISI

Chandigarh: Punjab finance minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Wednesday said the state DGP had not attributed the recent low-intensity blasts in Amritsar and Jalandhar to Pakistan’s ISI, stressing that the investigation was still at an early stage.“The DGP did not say that. He said the probe into the blasts is at an initial stage. Forensic teams have been roped in. He will hold a detailed press conference after the accused are traced… The DGP has not said any such thing,” Cheema said.He added that the DGP had indicated multiple angles were being examined. “He did not particularly blame anyone. The probe is still at an initial stage. We will give an update after 24 hours,” Cheema said.Targeting the BJP, Cheema alleged the party was trying to polarise voters. Responding to criticism by Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha, he said, “These MPs who left Punjab have no other issue to talk about.”He added, “If links are established to any BJP leaders, they will be taken to task as per law.”Earlier, the state DGP had said after visiting the Khassa cantonment area in Amritsar that the incident appeared to be part of an ISI-backed attempt to create unrest in Punjab.
