Porvorim: Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Monday told the assembly that the Porvorim shootout case has been transferred to the crime branch for further investigation.“The investigation is on. We have shifted the case to the crime branch, which will conduct a thorough probe. I am confident those responsible for the shootout will be arrested,” said Sawant, who also holds the home portfolio.The statement came after Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai raised concerns over law and order in the state.On Aug 25, two unidentified assailants allegedly opened fire on Shrinivas Nayak, director of Majestic Pride Group, which operates offshore and onshore casinos in Goa. CCTV footage showed the suspects waiting outside a hotel before targeting Nayak, who escaped unhurt. Porvorim police registered an attempt-to-murder case, while the assailants remain unidentified.“I have moved an adjournment motion on the collapse of law and order in Goa. A shootout took place just 500m from this assembly, and 76 hours have passed,” Sardesai said in the House.The assailants allegedly fired three rounds and fled when hotel security personnel tried to stop them.Leader of the opposition Yuri Alemao claimed there had been 10 shooting incidents in Goa over the past decade and questioned the state’s law-and-order situation.“When there is a high court, assembly and police station in the area, how can such shootings take place?” he said.
