Kolkata: A businessman and his minor son were allegedly abducted from the Narendrapur area on Sunday night and the accused called the family to demand a Rs 10 lakh ransom. However, cops traced the call and managed to rescue the duo from a garage in south Kolkata’s Manoharpukur within half a day. Three persons have been arrested.Police said businessman Nitish Makal (41) was returning home to Kharki with his 17-year-old son when a car blocked their way near Khayada in Narendrapur. The men in the car allegedly took them to a house on Manoharpukur Road by force. The accused later called Makal’s family and threatened to kill father and son if the ransom was not paid. The victims have alleged that they were beaten while being held hostage. On Monday, after the family filed a complaint at Narendrapur Police Station, cops started tracking mobile phone locations and traced the calls to the Manoharpukur Road area. Narendrapur Police then contacted Rabindra Sarobar Police, and a joint team raided the building, rescued the duo, and arrested three accused who were allegedly trying to escape. The arrested men have been identified as Sushanta Nath (24), Bishnu Das (28), and Sani Gupta (24), all residents of Manoharpukur Road.Police said the accused claimed during questioning that Makal owed them money, and they abducted the duo because the dues were not paid. Police are checking this claim.“We traced the call to a garage where party flags and chairs were stacked,” an officer said.Local BJP functionary Arnab Ghosh said the place was not a party office but a storeroom used to keep flags and chairs during the last assembly elections. He said the accused had no link with BJP or politics.Police suspect that more people may be involved in the abduction and raids are on to find them.
