Police deny permission for DK’s bike rally

Chennai: The state police on Thursday denied permission for a bike rally organised by Dravidar Kazhagam (DK) against Neet and reservation for economically weaker section (EWS), sparking criticism from political parties. Former chief minister M K Stalin condemned TVK govt, saying that TVK govt’s actions were similar to that of BJP.“When red and yellow (in TVK’s flag) are mixed, it will result in saffron colour,’’ he said in a statement.DK members were preparing for the rally in the morning when police said they were not granting permissiong for it. A large number of police personnel were also deployed at DK’s office, sparking tension. DK functionaries sought to explain that it was a “peaceful” bike rally. However, police refused to grant permission, following DK announced that the rally would be held at a later date. DK president K Veeramani said they will seek legal recourse to organise the rally.Stalin said TVK govt feared Neet protests more than the BJP govt. CPM state secretary P Shanmugam also condemned TVK govt, saying that it is not right to deny the rights guaranteed by the Indian Constitution.
