New Delhi: Police have arrested a labourer in north Delhi for allegedly killing his minor cousin, then stuffing her body in a suitcase and dumping it in the Burari area.The murder went undetected initially, but a police informer became suspicious about the labourer, Avinash, after he saw the man leaving with a suitcase and then returning without it.According to police, the source informed the cops that the man had borrowed a motorcycle from his friend and left with a suitcase. When he returned, he no longer had the suitcase, which raised the informer’s suspicion. The information was subsequently conveyed to head constable Sanjay of the special staff, following which police began investigating the matter.DCP (outer north) Shobhit D Saksena said a team acted on the information, laid a trap and apprehended Avinash, a resident of Mukundpur. During questioning, he allegedly confessed to the crime and disclosed details about the incident.Police said he led the team to a spot in Ajit Vihar, Burari, where he had concealed the suitcase containing the girl’s body. The body was recovered from the spot.Police are now conducting further investigation to establish the sequence of events and verify the circumstances surrounding the alleged murder.During interrogation, Avinash allegedly told police that the girl was in a relationship with a man, a relationship that her family was opposed to. According to police, the family had asked him to keep the girl with him so that she would not be able to contact the man.Police said he told investigators that he became irritated with the girl and subsequently killed her. “The murder was allegedly committed Sunday. Avinash claimed he had strangled his cousin. He said that the family had told her to leave the man but she didn’t listen,” police said.Police are verifying Avinash’s statements and are gathering other evidence as part of the investigation.In April, a 19-year-old woman was murdered in Tihar village in west Delhi’s Hari Nagar. Police had arrested her parents, who were allegedly against her relationship.
