Jaipur: A gang accused of conducting detailed reconnaissance before breaking into houses and using domestic-work jobs to gather information about residents has been busted by Jaipur Police, with three suspected members arrested near the Uttar Pradesh-Nepal border in connection with a July robbery in Jawahar Circle.Police said the gang allegedly spent 15-20 days studying a target before a robbery, with its members sometimes approaching households or nearby properties under the pretext of looking for domestic work. They allegedly gathered information about the occupants, valuables and security arrangements before passing it to other members involved in the crime.DCP (East) Ranjita Sharma said the arrests followed a robbery at a house in Shri Vihar Colony, behind Hotel Clarks Amer in Durgapura, on July 29. The complainant, Ashish Gupta, and his wife were in Uttarakhand when three men allegedly entered the house around 4 am and held their son, Raghav Gupta, hostage.The suspects allegedly escaped with around Rs 5 lakh in cash, a Cartier watch and jewellery comprising 12 gold and diamond rings, eight bracelets, six pendants, two gold coins and 10-15 silver coins.Four teams were formed after the case was registered at Jawahar Circle police station. Investigators examined around 300 CCTV recordings and travelled nearly 10,000 km while tracing the suspects and reconstructing their movements.Police said the gang had an organised structure, with five to seven people typically involved in a robbery. Some members allegedly conducted reconnaissance while others carried out the break-in and provided logistical support.Investigators said the gang’s members allegedly travelled towards the Nepal-Uttar Pradesh border and offered money to local people to join them in robberies. They would then travel to different parts of the country to target houses.If they found a house vacant, the reconnaissance team allegedly alerted other members, who would arrive and carry out the robbery. Police said members also attempted to develop contacts with domestic workers and security guards around targeted properties to obtain information or win them over.The gang allegedly dispersed immediately after a robbery and used different modes of transport to leave the area. Police said its members also used fake identity documents and gave false names and addresses while staying at different locations to conceal their movements.The arrested accused were identified as Satveer Singh (28) of Tendwa in Bahraich, Manbahadur (20) of Nibia in the Rupaidiha area of Bahraich, and Pradeep Kumar Yadav (24) of Tigda village in the same area.Police are questioning the three to establish their role in the Jawahar Circle robbery and identify other members of the alleged gang. Further investigation is underway.
