Noida: A neglected vacant plot, D-149, on an 18-metre-wide road in the heart of Sector 51 has become a hotspot for stagnant water and garbage, alarming residents who fear it could trigger a disease outbreak. Residents said the plot has been allowed to remain in poor condition for a long time, creating a health hazard in the neighbourhood.Residents said they have filed many complaints over the past three months, but there has been no action taken to improve the site’s condition. “The issue has persisted primarily due to the Noida Authority’s lack of action, as they have seemingly ignored the growing sanitation crisis in the area,” Sanjeev Kumar, RWA general secretary of blocks C to F in Sector 51, said.According to residents, since the merger of the Authority’s public health department with various work circles and the subsequent transfer of sanitation responsibility to the work circles, maintenance of key public spaces has been affected.“We are lodging complaints daily, yet we are at a loss as to what steps must be taken to resolve this problem. Is there any department within the Noida Authority where lodging a complaint could actually lead to a solution? If so, please let us know,” Kumar added.Taking cognisance of the complaint, RK Sharma, manager (Technical) of Noida Authority, said they will deploy a team to clear the site and improve cleanliness. “We understand the importance of maintaining a sanitary environment for our residents and are committed to addressing this issue promptly. We are deploying a team to clear the site and maintain its cleanliness,” Sharma told TOI.While residents welcomed the move, they remain cautious. Residents said they have received similar responses in the past, but no progress was ever made. “We appreciate the prompt reply, but we need regular follow-up actions to ensure that this problem doesn’t recur,” Kumar said.
Dirty water has inundated the plot, creating the perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes
