Dibrugarh: Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday said efforts are underway to develop Dibrugarh Airport into an international airport, citing the city’s strategic location and proximity to Southeast Asian countries, reports Rajib Dutta.Sonowal made the announcement while responding to a query at a press conference in Dibrugarh, saying that the geographical advantage of the airport makes it a strong candidate for international status.“We are working on it. We are glad to have the strategic location advantage of Dibrugarh Airport. We are close to Southeast Asia, and in the near future, we are working towards developing it as an international airport,” the minister said.The development of Dibrugarh Airport as an international facility aligns with the central govt’s Act East Policy, under which the northeast has been positioned as India’s gateway to Southeast Asia.
