Chandigarh: Newly appointed Punjab Congress in-charge Sachin Pilot will lead a march to the residence of AAP cabinet minister Harpal Singh Cheema against his alleged role in the Gulzar Singh suicide case on Tuesday. The protest will mark Pilot’s first visit to the state after assuming charge. As part of the mobilisation strategy, Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, along with working president Raj Kumar Verka, held a meeting with block presidents from Mohali and Ropar districts to discuss preparations for the protest.Meanwhile, AICC secretary and Punjab co-in charge Suraj Singh Thakur and working president Sukhwinder Singh Danny Bandala met senior Congress leaders and workers in Phagwara to finalise protest preparations and strategy. Similar meetings were held with workers from Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur, Pathankot and other districts.Former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi, senior leaders Partap Singh Bajwa, Pargat Singh, Sukhpal Singh Khaira and other leaders also asked their supporters to reach the protest venue. With rival camps, led by Warring and Channi, on the same page, the protest could also provide an opportunity for the faction-ridden state unit to project a united front. The senior leaders were last seen together on June 24, when the Punjab Congress leadership held a news conference demanding the resignation of chief minister Bhagwant Mann over allegations that a fake report had been fabricated in connection with the viral video case.
