Amritsar: Two persons have been arrested for allegedly attacking the driver and pilgrims on a bus operating under the Mukhya Mantri Teerth Yatra Yojana in Amritsar district, police said on Wednesday. Amritsar (rural) SSP Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal said two men in a Swift Dzire allegedly intercepted the bus at Defence Drain, near the Attari international border, on Tuesday and attacked the driver and some passengers with an axe. The SSP identified the arrested suspects as Bakshish Singh and Gurbhinder Singh. A case has been registered at the Gharinda police station under sections 125 (A) (act endangering life or personal safety of others), 126 (2) (wrongful restraint) and 351 (criminal intimidation), BNS. The issue took a political colour after AAP blamed Congress workers for the incident. AAP Punjab media in-charge Baltej Pannu claimed the two suspects have links with the Congress. “Police are investigating who instigated the accused and the larger conspiracy behind the attack,” he said. Police are examining CCTV footage to establish the sequence of events, collecting technical evidence and questioning the accused to determine the motive behind the attack. Pannu said, “The only reason behind this attack is that Congress cannot tolerate the appreciation people express for the Bhagwant Mann govt after returning from these pilgrimages.” MSID:: 132559481 413 |
