Physically challenged commuter pushed to death from Mumbai local by co-traveller

MUMBAI: A physically challenged commuter was pushed to his death from a moving local train between Bandra and Mahim stations by a co-traveler on Thursday following an argument.The Govt Railway Police (GRP) arrested the accused, Amjad Shaikh.This is the third incident this year of a commuter being murdered over an argument by a co-traveler.In January, college teacher Alok Kumar Singh was allegedly murdered by co-traveller Omkar Shinde following a trivial argument over alighting at Malad station.In June, 21-year-old Mayank Lohar, an employee of a clothing retail outlet, was allegedly murdered by co-traveller Roshan Suvarna following a fight over shutting the compartment door amid heavy rain.Reportedly, Cajetan Pries, the 63 year old victim, was travelling in the handicapped coach of a Churchgate-Borivali slow local.Police said Pries and Shaikh had an argument following which Pries was pushed off the coach. He suffered serious injuries.Personnel from the Railway Protection Force and Bandra GRP reached kilometre 14/03 between Bandra and Mahim stations and found the victim lying unconscious.He was taken for treatment to Bhabha Hospital around 2.45pm, where he was later declared dead.Shaikh told the GRP during preliminary questioning that he lived on a footpath near the Churchgate Dargah.The Bandra GRP is registering a case under section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Sheikh.A forensic team is expected to examine the spot.
