KOLKATA: A bomb threat scrawled on the washroom mirror of an IndiGo flight from Phuket to Kolkata triggered an extensive security check on Saturday, leaving passengers stranded on the airport tarmac for nearly two hours after landing. The Airbus A320neo, operating as flight 6E1494 and carrying around 80% of its passenger capacity, landed at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport at 2.05pm.Shortly after landing, cabin crew spotted the threatening message written on the mirror inside the aircraft’s toilet, officials said.Following the discovery, passengers were evacuated from the aircraft, transferred to an IndiGo bus and made to wait on the tarmac while the plane was moved to an isolation bay for a thorough security sweep. The search continued for over two hours, with passengers allowed to enter the airport terminal only around 4.30pm, after the security checks concluded. The incident came a day after a separate bomb scare at Kolkata airport, where a handwritten note on tissue paper warning of a bomb at a boarding gate was found inside a toilet on Friday morning. The note had prompted security personnel to conduct an extensive search of the airport premises, though flight operations were not disrupted. The back-to-back threats have put airport security agencies on alert, with the latest incident involving a threat message discovered inside an arriving aircraft rather than within the terminal premises.Officials were yet to disclose whether the message found aboard the IndiGo flight had led to any further investigation or identification of the person responsible.
