Pernem police file case against ATM fraudsters

Mapusa: Pernem police have filed a case against unidentified persons for allegedly using a “glue trap” technique to steal a man’s debit card and withdraw Rs 40,000 from his account at an ATM on Friday.According to the complaint by Dhargal resident Gandhali Sawant, the incident occurred on July 13 when her husband went to use the State Bank of India ATM opposite the Indian Oil petrol pump in Dhargal. The accused persons had intentionally applied a glue-like substance inside the ATM’s card reader slot.When the victim inserted the card, it got stuck inside the machine. The fraudsters later retrieved the trapped card and used it to fraudulently withdraw Rs 40,000 from a nearby Union Bank of India ATM.Pernem police have registered the case under Sections 305 (aggravated theft), 318(4) (cheating) and 3(5) (joint criminal liability) of BNS. PSI Prathmesh Parsekar is further investigating the case.
