Pedestrian dies in hit-and-run near Poultry Farm; accused arrested

Chandigarh: A pedestrian succumbed to his injuries three days after being hit by a speeding car near the Poultry Farm roundabout in Hallomajra on July 7. The driver allegedly fled the spot after the accident but was later identified and arrested by Chandigarh Police.The deceased was identified as Shiv Ram, a resident of Hallomajra.In a complaint to Sector 31 police, eyewitness Sonu Jaiswal, a resident of Deep Complex, Hallomajra, stated that Shiv Ram was attempting to cross the road near the Poultry Farm roundabout when a Maruti Ertiga bearing a Haryana registration number struck him and sped away.Jaiswal alerted police through the emergency helpline 112, following which a PCR team reached the spot and shifted the injured man to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32. Shiv Ram later succumbed to his injuries during treatment Thursday.Based on Jaiswal’s statement, Sector 31 police registered a case against an unidentified driver and began examining CCTV footage from the area.During the investigation, police identified and arrested the Ertiga driver, Sumit alias Meenu, a resident of Jind, Haryana. He was later released on bail.Further investigation is under way.
