Chandigarh: Punjab Engineering College (PEC) commemorated its celebrated alumnus, iconic satirist and comedian Jaspal Bhatti, during the Jaspal Bhatti Cultural Evening 2026 held at the campus auditorium on Friday.Organised by the PEC Old Students Association (PECOSA) and the PEC Alumni Affairs wing, the event brought together alumni, students, and family members to honor Bhatti’s legacy of using sharp comedy and social commentary to address everyday public issues.IRS officer Kusum Bansal attended as the chief guest, alongside guest of honour Savita Bhatti, wife of the late satirist. PEC director Dr Rajesh Bhatia presided over the ceremony.The programme also recognised academic excellence, awarding cash prizes to five fourth-semester discipline toppers. The Shamsher Singh Attri Awards (₹10,000 each) were presented to Paanav Bansal (aerospace, 9.36 CGPA), Harshit Singh (ECE, 9.64 CGPA), and Aditya Raj Bansal (mechanical, 9.49 CGPA).Additionally, Nichika (electrical, 9.13 CGPA) received the Harjit Singh Oberoi Award (₹11,000), while Samkit Jain (production, 8.78 CGPA) was conferred the Surinder Kaur Oberoi Award (₹11,000).PECOSA president HS Oberoi, general secretary Jorawar Singh, and head of alumni affairs Dr Rajesh Kanda coordinated the evening, which bridged Bhatti’s engineering roots with his acclaimed satirical career.
