Pune: Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) issued a show-cause notice to a contractor working on its new administrative building after a photograph allegedly showing workers without safety gear was circulated on social media.The construction was under way on an upper floor. Several activists and residents raised concerns over the alleged safety lapses, stating that any untoward incident at the site could raise questions about the civic body’s supervision of the project.A senior PCMC official said the contractor had been asked to submit an explanation by Monday. The civic body, the official said, directed to immediately ensure adequate safety measures and provide necessary protective equipment to the workers.Civic sources said the issue was also flagged last month, after which the contractor received a notice on Aug 14. “If there were no improvement, appropriate action would be taken against the contractor,” the official said.A Hyderabad-based firm is constructing the 13-floor administrative building on around seven acres.
