Lucknow: Patients at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) are facing treatment delays following a Rs 2.5 crore medicine procurement scam in the urology department, which has affected services under the state govt’s Asadhya Rog Yojana scheme.The scheme provides free treatment for serious illnesses such as cancer and chronic kidney disease. However, scrutiny and verification of documents for registration and fund release have slowed, with officials reluctant to clear application forms and related paperwork.The process requires submission of documents, including an income certificate, BPL or Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) ration card, medical reports, identity proof and photographs.Patients said verification and approvals have been delayed, affecting both new registrations and renewal of existing cards. Around 1,400 patients are registered under the scheme.Ram Chander from Unnao, undergoing treatment at the clinical haematology department, said he was asked to renew his card issued in Oct 2025. “I have been running from one department to another, but my card has still not been renewed,” he said.Dua Khan from Sadar said her family members had been trying to get funds credited to the card issued in Mar 2025. “The illness does not wait for funds. Officials should understand this and release the money,” she said.Gayatri from Maharajganj, undergoing treatment at the gynaecology department, has been unable to renew her card. Her son Suraj said they were asked to visit multiple offices but received no response.Ayushi from Sitapur, whose card was issued in Mar 2026, said no funds had been credited, delaying treatment.KGMU spokesperson Prof KK Singh said there was a misunderstanding related to paperwork and the issue would be resolved.
