Party worker alleges assault during campaign

Ahmedabad: A 57-year-old driver and political worker on Monday filed a complaint with Shaherkotda police alleging assault and threats during a local body election campaign in the Shaherkotda area.The complainant, Dhiraj Rathod, a resident of Buddhanagar Society near Naroda Road, stated that he has been associated with the BJP for over three decades. According to the complaint, on Monday, Rathod, along with workers Navin Rathod, Kanchan Solanki, Mahesh Rathod, Harish Solanki and Pinakin Rathod, completed a round in Laxmipura chawl in the Indira Nagar ward and proceeded to Ashok Mill’s new chawl for further outreach.At the entrance of the chawl, a resident, Hasmukh Vora, also known as Kalu Gulabi, allegedly objected to the campaign and asked the group to leave. When the complainant responded that they would complete their scheduled outreach and leave, the accused allegedly began abusing him. Police said Vora allegedly grabbed Rathod by the collar, engaged in a scuffle and slapped him multiple times, causing him to fall. Other workers present intervened and separated the two.The accused also allegedly issued threats, warning the group against returning to the area for campaigning. Following the incident, the complainant and his associates approached the police and lodged a complaint.
