New Delhi: Delhi Police has so far recorded the statements of at least 12 people in connection with the gang rape of a minor girl at Aastha Kunj Park in southeast Delhi Monday. The statements include those of the survivor, her friend, security guards and a nearby guard who allegedly saw the three accused in and around the park on the day of the incident and on previous occasions.On Thursday, the accused – Asif, Hemant and Mukesh — were produced before judicial magistrate first class Deepika Thakran and remanded in 14 days’ judicial custody. They will be produced before the court again on Oct 8.Investigators are also tracking the movements of the accused before and after the alleged crime. Police sources said Asif’s last mobile phone location after the incident revealed he was headed home in southeast Delhi. He switched off his phone soon afterwards. “Whether he went home or not is being probed,” a source said. Police have also questioned his wife.Police said a few months ago, Hemant had been removed from a gym close to his house in Sriniwaspuri over allegations of misconduct. A person who attended the gym said the brothers used to visit the facility but had not been coming for the past few months.TOI visited the gym to verify the circumstances surrounding Hemant’s alleged removal, but the facility was found locked. When contacted, there was no immediate response from the gym trainer.A senior police officer declined to comment on when asked whether the crime scene had been reconstructed so far. Police said they are focusing on building a watertight case and chargesheet. Investigators are examining CCTV footage and call detail records to establish the movements of the accused that links them to the crime scene.Police have also sent the mobile phones recovered from the accused for digital forensic examination to retrieve deleted data and establish what activity took place on the devices around the time of the crime.
