Parents protest against Navi Mumbai school fee hike

Navi Mumbai: Parents staged a protest recently against a 25% fee hike by a Kharghar school prompting the management to reduce it to 19%. However, the parents are still opposing the hike seeking it be capped at 15%. The school has around 4,600 students. The last meeting was held on April 15 after the police intervened during the protest. A parent alleged, “The unjustified hike was effected without due consultations. Our protests had led to the reduction of fees by Rs 500 or some more. The increase should not have been more than 15%.” The school principal said, “Fees have been reduced by 6%. The due procedure has been inspected and vetted by the education officer. The fee hike is within the limit of the Maharashtra Educational Institutions (Prohibition of Capitation Fee) Act.”
