Panic buying in Amritsar; pumps run out of fuel

Amritsar: The fuel price hike by the Centre triggered panic buying in Amritsar on Friday, leading to long queues, traffic congestion and temporary shortages at some petrol pumps before supplies stabilised later in the day. Motorists rushed to stock fuel, with some carrying extra containers, while a few filling stations briefly ran out of petrol due to the sudden spike in demand. By afternoon, the crowds at most petrol pumps reduced significantly and the situation returned to normal. The hike also sparked protests by the Aam Aadmi Party at Crystal Chowk, where party leaders accused the BJP-led Centre of burdening the common man with rising inflation. MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal said the increase in fuel prices would raise transportation costs and make essential commodities more expensive. He warned that the party would intensify its agitation if fuel prices were not reduced immediately.
