Panel clears SCR region base map

Lucknow: A regional development plan aimed at improving connectivity, attracting investment and generating jobs across six districts moved a step closer on Tuesday after the UP State Capital Region (UPSCR) review committee approved the region’s base map.The proposal will now be sent to the UPSCR executive committee for final approval, after which work on the Regional Plan will begin, officials said.The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by divisional commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant at the LDA office.Kumar said theUPSCR comprises Lucknow, Sitapur, Unnao, Hardoi, Barabanki and Rae Bareli districts and covers 26,741 sqkm.LDA vice-chairman Prathamesh Kumar said a GIS-based regional master plan is being prepared for the region and 30 projects have been identified in transportation, mobility, economy, infrastructure and tourism.The projects include the state capital mala regional road, an elevated peripheral road, road upgradation works, a transport Nagar, an orbital rail corridor and a metro network, he said.Industrial development projects, logistics parks, food parks and corridor-oriented development along the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway have also been identified, Kumar said.He said the base map was circulated to 22 institutions, including development authorities, the revenue department, PWD, railways, forest department, municipal corporation, irrigation department and urban and regional planning.All 22 institutions examined the map and gave their consent before it was placed before the review committee, he said.Kumar said officials carried out ground verification at 2,239 locations across the six districts to validate data obtained from satellite imagery and maps.
