Hyderabad: With more than 40 lakh hearing dates already lapsed and over nine lakh notices yet to be delivered, Telangana’s ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls continues to face significant pendency, particularly in the Hyderabad metropolitan region, according to the latest status report released on Tuesday.Of the 92.88 lakh notices generated under the exercise, 83.72 lakh, or 90.1%, had been delivered as of 2 pm on Sept 22. However, the report showed that 40,77,727 hearing dates had lapsed, accounting for 43.9% of all notices generated. Another 55,462 rescheduled hearing dates had also lapsed. At the same time, around 46 lakh hearings had been completed.A major share of the remaining delivery backlog is concentrated in the Hyderabad metropolitan region. Rangareddy and Medchal Malkajgiri together accounted for 5.6 lakh of the 9.15 lakh undelivered notices statewide, representing nearly 61% of the total pendency. Rangareddy had 2.8 lakh notices yet to be delivered, while Medchal Malkajgiri had 2.7 lakh pending.At the Assembly constituency level, Serilingampally reported the highest number of pending notice deliveries at 1.1 lakh, followed by LB Nagar with 88,507 and Medchal with 80,932.While Hyderabad district recorded one of the highest delivery rates at 96.1%, another bottleneck emerged at the district election officer (DEO) verification stage. Of the 5.5 lakh cases pending with DEOs across the state, Hyderabad alone accounted for 3.4 lakh. The district also had 2.1 lakh cases pending for more than five days.‘Clear pendency’Reviewing the exercise with DEOs, chief electoral officer C Sudharshan Reddy directed officials to expedite the disposal of anomaly and no-mapping cases and ensure that daily targets are met.He instructed officials to clear pending Forms 6, 7 and 8, along with hearing-related cases, while providing electors with adequate time to submit supporting documents. Cases pending at the electoral registration officer level should also be disposed of without delay, with additional computer operators deployed wherever necessary.The CEO said senior citizens and persons with disabilities should not be asked to attend hearings unnecessarily, while NRIs may submit documents through authorised representatives wherever applicable. He also directed officials to give special attention to ineligible voter cases and issue speaking orders after following due process.
