New Delhi: A total of 432 Class IX girls in the Janakpuri constituency received bicycles under the Delhi govt’s Vidya Vahini Yojana Tuesday.Around 26,000 bicycles have been distributed across the capital since the scheme was launched on July 31.Delhi education minister Ashish Sood distributed the bicycles at a govt girls’ school in Janakpuri. He said the govt’s focus was on building students’ confidence alongside academic achievement.During the event, Sood also inspected upgraded facilities, including smart classrooms, digital libraries and language labs. “When a candidate applies for a job, recruiters often set the marksheet aside first. What truly opens doors for you is how confidently you speak and how well you understand your subject. This bicycle is a tool to boost your self-confidence and independence,” Sood said. The minister described the changes in govt schools as a transition from students sitting on jute mats and writing on wooden slates to learning with smart boards and Chromebooks. He said 255 smart classrooms, two digital libraries, four ICT labs and five language labs had been established across the Janakpuri constituency.Across govt schools in Delhi, 9,000 smart boards and 20,000 computers were installed this year, Sood said, adding that the govt planned to add an equal number in the coming financial year. Students were also learning languages such as French, German, Spanish, Sanskrit and Kannada, he added.Sood encouraged students to make full use of digital resources, experiential learning opportunities aligned with National Education Policy and career counselling centres. He also asked parents to support practical learning and independence, linking the bicycle distribution to the broader goal of helping girls become more confident.
