Aizawl: District administrations of all 11 districts across Mizoram are nearing completion of biometric enrolment of over 31,200 refugees from Myanmar and Bangladesh, state home department officials said on Sunday.Breaking down the numbers, the officials said 29,047 Myanmarese and 1,447 Bangladeshi refugees had been biometrically enrolled.While six districts – Aizawl, Champhai, Lunglei, Mamit, Khawzawl and Saitual – have finished enrolment of refugees, Mamit district has completed 99.86%. enrollment. Hnahthial, which has only 622 Myanmar refugees, has managed 90.51% enrolment.Meanwhile, several district administrations have begun free distribution of rice to the refugees and IDPs, the officials added.Lawngtlai district deputy commissioner Donny Lalruatsanga said district officials will start the distribution from Tuesday.However, Kolasib district officials said they will undertake a fresh census before distributing rice within the refugees. Citing the change in number of IDPs almost everyday, district deputy commissioner H Dotinbuaia said a number of IDPs were keen on returning to Manipur.Champhai district, along the India-Myanmar border, which has the largest number of Myanmar refugees at 12,083, has been allocated 4,460 quintals of rice for distribution, followed by Lawngtlai and Siaha at 2,794 and 1,118 quintals respectively.
