Oppn unity on table as Cong backs AAP’s alliance pitch

Margao: Congress on Thursday welcomed AAP’s proposal to join an opposition alliance ahead of the 2027 assembly elections, with state president Girish Chodankar saying unity among anti-BJP parties was the priority.“It’s a welcome sign. Everybody wants to see all opposition parties come together, and I’m confident that will happen,” Chodankar said.On the terms of a possible tie-up, he added, “Let’s forge unity first. The other issues can be sorted out later.”His remarks came a day after AAP expressed willingness to join hands with Congress to take on BJP in Goa. The party has appointed a three-member team — state president Valmiki Naik, working president Gerson Gomes and organisational secretary Prashant Naik — to lead alliance discussions.Naik had said AAP did not want another fractured mandate and was seeking a united opposition capable of winning at least 35 seats, enough to resist attempts at defections. He urged opposition parties to set aside individual ambitions in favour of Goa’s larger interest.
