One-way on Vyapar Kendra, Galleria Market Roads only till underpass work begins
GMDA CEO PC Meena said the Authority will soon begin construction of the underpass at Millennium City Centre, which will require traffic diversions and road closures

Gurgaon: The one-way traffic arrangement on Vyapar Kendra and Galleria Market roads will continue until the construction of an underpass at Millennium City Centre begins. The decision was taken at the District Coordination Committee meeting, after discussions between Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and Traffic Police Department chaired by D S Dhesi, Haryana’s principal advisor, urban development.Residents have raised concerns over traffic congestion and safety on narrow stretches. They have demanded that the previous system should be retained. Both roads had been one-way since 2011, but motorists have recently begun using them in both directions while GMDA continues work on the traffic arrangement by installing flexible spring bollards and other measures to regulate traffic.GMDA CEO PC Meena said the Authority will soon begin construction of the underpass at Millennium City Centre, which will require traffic diversions and road closures. GMDA officials noted that changing the circulation pattern now, only to alter it again once construction starts, would add to commuters’ confusion. In view of this, Dhesi directed that the existing one-way traffic arrangement on Vyapar Kendra and Galleria roads will continue until the underpass construction work begins.Until then, any violation of the one-way arrangement, including wrong-side driving, will invite challans. Both agencies have also been directed to install adequate signage and put up public notices, so commuters stay informed.“Construction will start once GRAP measures have been lifted after which barricading and excavation will start,” a senior GMDA official said.Residents welcomed the one-way decision and said they would not accept a return to two-way after construction of the underpass begins. “We will not allow this two-way permanently, because it is our life, and we will have to suffer it for the rest of our lives as some people decided to change a workable traffic movement without applying due diligence and consultation,” said Akshay Tripathi, RWA president – D block, Sushant Lok-1.
