Gurgaon: Police have set up a special investigation team (SIT) after a woman placed in a One Stop Centre in Nuh accused a watchman at the institution of raping and sexually harassing her and other staff members, including a counsellor, of threatening and intimidating her.The SIT was constituted following a grievance committee meeting chaired by cabinet minister Vipul Goel on Friday. An FIR has also been registered in the matter.In her complaint, the woman alleged she was sexually harassed and assaulted multiple times during her stay at the govt-run shelter from Feb to May. She said the watchman first started harassing her by forcing her to make tea for him and do other chores. When she threatened to complain against him, he allegedly told her no action would be taken against him because several of his relatives are employed at the Centre.The issue then escalated and he started touching her inappropriately, she claimed. On one occasion, she said the watchman mixed an intoxicating substance into her food, causing her to lose consciousness. When she regained consciousness, she realised that he had sexually assaulted her. She alleged that when she tried to go to the authorities, the accused threatened to have her husband killed.According to the woman’s complaint, when she informed the centre’s counsellor — who she found was a family member of the watchman — about the alleged misconduct, she dismissed her concerns, saying the watchman might have mistakenly touched her.Police said the SIT has been directed to conduct a detailed inquiry into the allegations and submit its findings to the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM).According to police, an inquiry report was sought by the superintendent of police from the SHO of City police station after the complaint was received.“The investigation is currently being conducted by a woman ASI of City police station, while the newly constituted SIT will independently examine the allegations and submit its findings to the district administration,” an officer said.Police said the investigation is underway and further action will be taken based on the evidence collected and the findings of the SIT.
