Chennai: City police personnel on poll duty and hence eligible for postal ballots have been given one more day to cast their votes. A total of 18,971 police personnel were eligible to vote through postal ballots. On April 18, at least 10,000 personnel cast their votes. Officials had scheduled 9,703 personnel to vote on April 18 and 9,268 on April 20.City commissioner Abin Dinesh Modak arranged two days of polling to ensure that personnel deployed on election duty could vote without affecting law and order responsibilities. During the two-day exercise, 17,417 personnel cast their votes, leaving 1,554 votes pending. Following this, election officials approved an additional day to complete the process. TNN
