Hyderabad: A 60-year-old man died, and another was injured, after the two-wheeler they were travelling on was hit by a car driven by a 17-year-old in Karmik Nagar, Yousufguda, around 9.45 am on Sunday. The victims were on their way to church when the accident occurred. CCTV footage of the crash, which later went viral, showed the car speeding through a narrow lane before ploughing into the two-wheeler.The deceased were identified as Raj Kumar (60), who was riding pillion. The rider, Prabhakar, sustained injuries.According to Madhura Nagar police, there were two minors – both 17 years old and residents of Borabanda — inside the car at the time of the crash. After hitting the motorcycle, they allegedly attempted to abandon the vehicle and flee but were caught by local residents who roughed them up before handing them over to the cops.During investigation, police found that three friends — Nawaz and the two minors — had planned a trip to Ananthagiri Hills. Nawaz had hired the car and parked it outside his house, asking the two minors to wait while he went inside to have breakfast. However, two inter second-year students allegedly took the car out without his knowledge. Police said one of the minors initially occupied the front passenger seat before taking over the wheel. After driving only a short distance, he lost control of the vehicle and rammed into multiple vehicles, including the victims’ motorcycle.Owing to the impact, Raj Kumar came under the car, cops said. “Locals had a tough time pulling him out since several bikes were trapped under the car along with him. They had to first clear out the vehicles before bringing him out,” said Madhura Nagar sub- inspector, Anjaneyulu. While he was shifted to a hospital for treatment, Raj Kumar succumbed to his injuries there.“The minors have been taken into custody. But Nawaz was let off because we found that he had no role in this. The minors had driven away without informing him,” said the SI, adding, “When Nawaz hired the car, the owner verified his driving license too.” On June 21, a 42-year-old nurse, Faheemunnisa, was killed in a hit-and-run accident at Hill Colony, Asif Nagar, after she was allegedly struck by a SUV being driven by a 17-year-old. She was walking to work when the car hit her, leaving her with grievous injuries. She later succumbed at a hospital. Police traced the vehicle and booked the minor driver under the Juvenile Justice Act and relevant provisions of the BNS. They also initiated action against the person who rented the SUV to the underage driver.
