CCTV Captures Brutal Attack near Bombay Motor Circle Over Old Rivalry
The assailants allegedly assaulted both men with sharp-edged weapon
Jodhpur: A long-running rivalry between two groups erupted into violence near Bombay Motor Circle in Jodhpur late Friday night when five-to-six-armed assailants attacked two men, shot them, and fled, leaving one dead and the other critically injured.Police said the victims, identified as Vicky Fighter and Sunny Hans, had reached the area in a Scorpio SUV for repair work and were sitting near the vehicle when the attackers arrived on motorcycles and a scooter. The assailants allegedly assaulted both men with sharp-edged weapons, rods and sticks, then opened fire. Vicky sustained a bullet injury to the head and Sunny was shot in the back, said police. The attackers also vandalised the SUV, smashing its windows before escaping. Both men were taken to MDM Hospital, where Vicky died during treatment Saturday morning. Sunny remained hospitalised in critical condition. The incident was captured on CCTV cameras outside a nearby commercial complex. Police said the footage shows the assailants attacking the two men with sharp weapons, chasing them as they tried to flee, and continuing the assault after one of the victims collapsed near the complex. Around three rounds were fired, police said. A medical board was constituted for Vicky’s post-mortem, and forensic teams collected evidence from the crime scene.Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Narendra Singh Devda said preliminary investigation indicates the motive was an old rivalry. Police have identified the accused, detained one suspect for questioning, and formed teams from three police stations to conduct raids to arrest the remaining attackers, the police officer said. Security was tightened in the area to prevent further tension.Police said the attackers are suspected to be linked to the Montu Kandara gang and the assault is believed to be retaliation for a violent clash between the rival groups about two months ago.Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot criticised the state govt over law and order, stating on X that the attack showed growing criminal fearlessness and called for immediate steps to restore public confidence in policing.
