Hyderabad: The ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has revealed significant voter discrepancies in Hyderabad district, with the Old City accounting for the majority of the nearly 6.8 lakh voters identified as absent, shifted or dead (ASD).According to data available with the Hyderabad district election office (DEO), around 11.5 lakh voters across the district’s 15 assembly constituencies have so far been classified under the ASD category. Of these, nearly 60% are from the Old City, with Chandrayangutta, Karwan and Nampally recording the highest numbers.Chandrayangutta has reported the highest number of ASD voters at 1.23 lakh. Significantly, this figure is equivalent to nearly 78% of the 1.57 lakh votes polled in the constituency during the 2023 assembly elections. Karwan and Nampally have also each recorded more than one lakh voters under the ASD category.Enumeration only 30% completeElection officials, however, cautioned that the exercise is still at a preliminary stage. Only about 30% of the enumeration work has been completed, while more than 10 lakh voter records in the Old City are yet to be digitised. As the revision progresses, the final figures are expected to change.To improve public participation and ensure that all eligible voters remain on the electoral rolls, the election wing has intensified awareness campaigns across the district.“We are conducting public announcements through autorickshaws and have installed banners, posters and hoardings at prominent locations. In addition, we are holding interactive meetings with resident welfare associations (RWAs). At the same time, periodic SMS campaigns are being sent to GHMC property taxpayers to encourage them to complete the SIR process,” an election official said.
