Nalasopara: Showing presence of mind, Kavita Hunnarkar, a nurse at a private hospital in Nalasopara, rushed to Imperial Heritage building with an ambulance after learning about the fire around 1 am on Wednesday. With the help of local youths, she climbed up to the sixth floor and helped evacuate residents trapped inside their flats. She also helped rescue Gauri Khamkar, who was stranded in her flat on the 11th floor.“It was dark everywhere, so we used our mobile phone torches to climb the stairs. We knocked on every door to check if anyone was trapped, broke windowpanes and helped bring people to safety,” Hunnarkar said.
