Gurgaon: After failing to attract bidders for hiring 15 mechanical road-sweeping machines for its two clusters, MCG has revised its procurement strategy and will now hire the machines on a zone-wise basis. The project, estimated to cost Rs 9 crore, is part of the city’s Clean Air Action Plan submitted to Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM). Under the plan, MCG has committed to expanding mechanised road sweeping to reduce road dust and improve air quality. The civic body currently operates 20 mechanical sweeping machines but has informed the CAQM that the city requires a fleet of 35 machines to meet the targets under the action plan. The proposed addition of 15 machines is intended to bridge this gap and strengthen dust-mitigation efforts across the city.Last month, the civic body floated two tenders to outsource 15 machines, along with their operation and maintenance, for six months. The requirement was divided into two clusters comprising seven and eight machines to facilitate procurement. However, neither tender received any bids.MCG executive engineer Sunder Sheoran said, “We did not receive any bids earlier because the agencies said they did not have the capacity to deploy such a large number of machines under a single contract.”The corporation now plans to appoint separate agencies for each of its eight zones, with every zone receiving one or two additional sweeping machines for six months. Officials said the revised approach is expected to attract more bidders by enabling agencies with smaller fleets to participate.
