Noida: Noida Authority will lay new sewer lines and set up sewage pumping stations in five villages — Barola, Sarfabad, Wazidpur, Hazipur and Chhijarsi — to address chronic overflow problems. GB Nagar MP Mahesh Sharma and Noida MLA Pankaj Singh joined Authority officials on Thursday to lay foundation stones for the projects.“We were getting complaints about sewage problems in these areas and have decided to resolve the overflow woes permanently,” said RP Singh, general manager, Noida Authority.The largest outlay is a 10-million-litre-per-day sewage pumping station in Barola at Rs 10 crore. In Chhijarsi, Rs 1.65 crore will go toward maintenance of a 1,280-metre sewer line, pipe replacement and repair work. Wazidpur will see Rs 1.64 crore spent on a 1,300-metre stretch for similar repairs and replacement of rusted pipes, while Rs 1 crore has been earmarked for maintaining 3,344 metres of sewer pipeline in Sarfabad.MLA Singh said residents had flagged the issues and the Authority had acted. The works carry added urgency ahead of the monsoon, when rainfall sharply increases pressure on underground networks — damaged or undersized lines can cause sewage to mix with rainwater, triggering waterlogging and backflow into homes.The Authority will also spend Rs 1.65 crore on maintenance of a 1,280-metre sewer line, replacement of old pipes and other repair work in Chhijarsi village. In addition, it will spend Rs 1.64 crore on maintenance and repair of sewer lines and replacement of old, rusted pipes along a 1,300-metre stretch in Wazidpur. The Authority will spend Rs 1 crore on maintenance of 3,344.10 metres of sewer pipeline in Sarfabad.MLA Pankaj Singh said, “With these projects, the sewer problems will be properly resolved in the villages. We asked the Noida Authority to address these issues after the residents raised these key issues in the past.”Resolving sewer overflow and drainage issues is important as monsoon rainfall sharply increases pressure on underground sewer networks. If damaged or undersized sewer lines are not repaired in advance, rainwater mixes with sewage, leading to overflowing drains, waterlogging and backflow into residential areas.
