Noida: A pollution board inspection has found large quantities of municipal and construction waste piled along the Kondli drain at multiple locations, prompting its regional office to recommend penalty and action against Noida Authority for violating waste-management rules. The waste was found along stretches from Sector 137 to Sector 49, raising concern that rain could wash the garbage into the drain and, eventually, the Hindon and Yamuna. The inspection followed an NGT order on July 24 after applicant Abhisht Kusum Gupta, in two matters concerning the upkeep of water bodies and ponds, alleged that Noida Authority was allowing waste to be dumped along the drain.
UPPCB report mentioned excessive municipal solid waste and construction and demolition waste stored at several points along the drain
The tribunal asked UP Pollution Control Board’s member secretary to verify the allegations and take appropriate action. The member secretary subsequently asked the Noida regional office to inspect the site and report its findings. On Sept 25, UPPCB officials inspected the locations in Gupta’s presence. Their report mentioned excessive municipal solid waste and construction and demolition (C&D) waste stored at several points, terming it a violation of the Municipal Solid Waste Management Rules and C&D Waste Management Rules, 2016.In a letter to the chief pollution officer (circle-1) of UPPCB on Sept 26, regional officer Ritesh Kumar Tiwari recommended action against the Authority under the two waste-management rules. The inspection report and photographs were enclosed with the letter.

Similar dumping was recorded along the drain from Sector 137 to Sector 81 and from Sector 81 to Sector 49 road.Gupta said the Authority deployed heavy machinery to clear some of the accumulated waste on Wednesday. “They have already caused damage and the Authority must pay fine for the violations,” he said, adding that it was unfortunate residents had to approach NGT even for proper waste handling.
